Trolley Tours highlight Huntington WV's Black History
Cabell County, WV, celebrates America 250 with film & events
Symposium hosted by Marshall honors a century of Black History Month
Black WV Scientists celebrated during centennial Black History Month...

"The tours are open to the public and explore the rich backdrop of Black excellence in the Huntington area using a historic trolley. The trolley welcomes visitors outside the Marshall Student Center and weaves through various parts of the city, highlighting landmarks and people of importance from the Black community."

Dr. Cicero M. Fain, III, author of Black Huntington: An Appalachian Story and Assistant Provost of Access & Opportunity at Marshall University, was interviewed for Cabell County’s America 250 film commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing and adoption of the Declaration of Independence.

"Montserrat Miller... organizer of the [American Milestone Symposium], stressed the necessity of the event across the world. 'The Centennial Symposium is nationally and internationally important,' Miller said. 'It’s a major undertaking demonstrating the importance of Black History in a time of erasure,' she said."

Appalachian Freedom Heritage Tour: New plaque honors the story of an enslaved man
Underground Railroad Markers to acknowledge the story of Black West Virginia
Black History Trolley Tours in Huntington

"In remembrance of a man’s courage to liberate himself and gain freedom, a plaque marker was placed on Buffington Street in Guyandotte, West Virginia. ...The Tour is part of the Appalachian Freedom Initiative.... The marker is one of two new sites in Cabell County, with the other on Green Bottom/Jenkins Plantation."
